CHAPTER SIX
BLACK POLITICAL REFORM
Help the People? Or Rob the People? It used to be that people would join politics because they had a passion for advancing causes, people, and society. Now, many get involved in politics for the schemes, scams, and ability to do deals to become rich. There are a lot of unsuccessful lawyers who find their way into politics. Today, unfortunately, politics is more about money than the good of society or one’s community. Since community is mentioned, let’s expand upon the reality that racism as a system employed by Whites wouldn’t still be so effective today if there weren’t Black Americans playing the part to protect their interests. In other words, there are Black Americans who sell out other Black Americans so they can get whatever they seek. These are the most dangerous Negropeans. They’re in positions to sell out hundreds, thousands, and millions of people, depending on their position.
One of the things I’ve noticed about the gentrification of Black American communities is that, in most cases, community development projects are planned years in advance; it doesn’t happen overnight. For instance, in Austin, Texas, the property taxes were raised to such a degree that residents couldn’t afford to pay. There was also a drying up of refinance money and mortgage lending. Redlining is illegal, yet this still happens a whole lot. In the matter of Black American communities, the Black American politicians on the inside who see and know what’s going on, too often keep quiet because they’re financially or politically gaining in some manner. Black American communities no longer need these kinds of politicians. Politics is very tricky, and unfortunately, it’s not taught in depth within most public schools. For a while, the population in general has been unaware of how local community and state politics work as a process. Today, many are aware and no longer is the veil covering their eyes. The people are wide awake. They don’t want Negropeans to represent them any longer.
Many voices within the Black American community are rightfully demanding that Black elected officials shift their focus from merely managing crises to actively addressing them. It’s clear that the conversations among Black Americans center on a critical question: (continued)
